Dumb, Dumber, Dumbest
Today I overheard a conversation between my teacher and the mother of a young pupil. This kid didn't have a keyboard to practise at home at the moment ("at the moment" finally turned into "for almost a year now"), and she didn't have the school workbook, so the teacher had to photo-copy the lessons for her (which I'm surprised she did anyway, since the school sells their own trademark copyrighted books).
And I was thinking, how dumb is that?
a) You are wasting time and throwing money away paying for tuition and then not providing your kid with the essential materials to practise at home!
b) If you can't afford a keyboard and a workbook, then you are throwing away some money that you obviously need!
c) If you can afford paying for the lessons, then I think you are just being lazy not making the extra effort to get at least a cheap keyboard and the workbook. It would be better to miss school for 3 months and use the money saved on tuition to buy a keyboard and the book. Or, ask the school shop for help, and pay for the keyboard and the book a little every month. I'm sure they would help.
So mum, get your daughter a keyboard and the damn book and save her the embarrassment of showing up at school every week absolutely clueless on her lessons!

Glove me up!
Here are some of the visible signs of my problem and a potential aid to its solution.

That's my gloved hand upon my arm. That's my skin right now. All the visible dots are scabs in different degrees of healing. You're not even seeing the worst of it, since my efforts are starting to bare some fruit and my skin is healing. And it knows how to heal, I tell you, it feels like a miracle the way all signs of my self-torture disappear.
It's kinda ridiculous to wear these gloves at home, but they help so much. I don't wear them all the time, just when my hands are free to roam and they dare to land on my skin attempting to pick, then there comes the skin police and sends them to jail. To the gloves, you naughties!

I wonder
- How long do we have to suffer a site like www.porquetomoactimel.com (NOT hyperlinking that, never) before anybody counter-attacks with a www.porquenotomoactimel.com (hyperlinked because I know one day it'll come to exist) so I can tell the world how fucking sick I am of their product and commercials?
- Is there anything more ridiculous and nauseating than the latest ADSL commercial encouraging the high-school student to get ADSL to "get ready for college", sharing notes, looking for info and studying on-line? Do they actually believe any parents are still gullible enough to think their kid is going to do anything than wasting time and downloading music and movies?
- Why does our local library list the books they have in different languages than Spanish as "Books for foreigners"? So the locals are not encouraged to pick books in different languages, let's say for that old fashioned thing called studying a second language? How redneckish is that?

New season, new teacher, new beginnings
“Aim for the sky and you'll reach the ceiling. Aim for the ceiling and you'll stay on the floor.” - Bill Shankly
I have a new teacher at the keyboard school. She's the third teacher I've had. It kinda sucks having a new teacher, in as petty a thing as we humans don't tend to enjoy change that much, and the lastest teacher was really fun and nice so I'm going to miss her. But, on the other hand, it's cool to have a new teacher, because:
a) Every teacher is a world on their own. They all have different experiences, tastes, approaches, skills and tricks to teach you. First day and I've already been corrected on my chord fingering. I understood why she corrected me, and although it's always tricky to unlearn and discard vices, I could see the good sense in her corrections.
b) A new teacher makes you feel like you are playing in your undies at school. They don't know your "limits" yet, so they are aiming for the sky and get quite demanding. Later they tend to relax a bit, and that's OK because I really can't learn with that kind pressure on my shoulders constantly. But for the while it lasts, it's like a speed up, and that's cool.
I've observed the new teacher before, working at rehearsals with her students or a few minutes in classrooms and she is very focused, yet she also seems quite nice. Everybody is nice at school really, so I'm looking forward enjoying another season of keyboard practise and music study!
